Design diary December

Hi all,

December is not a great time for designing! Between being off sick with food poisoning, marking an insane amount of exam papers and having too many projects on the go – progress has been slow.

We’re about 5k words into our Conflict themed “Choose your own path” book with an aim of about 10 endings and 40k total words. We’re looking to get this released some time next year with a percentage of profits going to “War Child”, who do great work looking after children stuck in conflict in places like Syria. We’re also looking to put an early version up on our Patreon / TES when the first pathway has been drafted.

We’ve released “Bunker 13” to the world as a free print and play on our Patreon and are looking to release our pretty well playtested board game “Village Life” sometime early next year. If there is interest I would also love to see new artwork done for it, but alas the world of print and play games is somewhat no-profit rather than non-profit!

Finally as Christmas is on its way, those of you who follow our @harlegames Instagram will know we’ve been playing an awful lot of Tokaido in the game club these last couple of weeks. The problem is however that it’s a massive box and not very portable. I bought it to take up to my family over the holidays and that sparked a new design idea. Could we have a similar mechanic, but with more portable tiles or cards over a large board? Setting a theme of journeying to Canterbury on a pilgrimage we’ve made a little idea together. Hopefully I’ll post some of it up soon!

Merry Christmas all, see you in the new year (from over the stacks of exam papers!)

November Double Bill!

Our students are heavily into werewolf/mafia style games so weve been playing around with some ideas in the club.

This month we are releasing The Cult – a Sandbrook themed version of the classic Werewolf game and The Bunker – where dwindling supplies and frequent raids make surviving difficult in the wasteland. Currently being finished off and will be released later this month.

You can download the games, and all our games from our Patreon page (because it offers free hosting!) Here

Patrons see our early works in progress and more – were currently not charging Patrons either – so there’s never been a better time to sign up!

Want to support us, but dont want to sign up to Patreon? See our educational materials and ebooks here, or buy the club some snacks here.

Thanks for taking a look! All donations go towards helping make educational materials and run the games club for our students, so all help is very welcome!

As a thanks to all our loyal readers, heres a picture of a cat. My cat to be preciese!

Getting ready for November releases!

The bumker cards

November is coming up and were looking to release two Mafia/Werewolf style games based on a converting cult and a post apocalyptic bunker being raided by mutants and raiders. The bunker version (pictured) is being finalised now and includes a few twists on the classic genre.

Keep an eye out for its release in November or take a look at an early version now on Patreon!

You can also check out SS Sandbrook for free as a print and play here with a similar theme.

Thank you to all our supporters on Patreon, TES, Instagram and WordPress – with your support we are able to keep our tabletop club open and create educational and support materials for our students.

Where does the money go?
Income from Patreon and our online shops goes directly into keeping the tabletop club running for students that would otherwise have nowhere else to go at lunchtimes and after school. It also goes into printing and making resources for our students to play, as well as materials for mental health and education in local schools.

Specifically so far we have:
Professionally Printed Emotions colouring and literacy books as well as a number of mood journals for our partner schools and students with mental health issues.
Professionally printed Emotions playing cards for SEN and EAL students in our partner schools
– Created and provided free educational games and materials to our local school.
Created and made available multiple print and play games and a number of smaller scale games all for free to the public.
Supported between 15 and 25 students every lunchtime and after school most days for the past school year with a safe, supportative and fun place to go.

The elders work seemlessly alongside the Village council to bring hope and joy to the people of Sandbrook. The Leader works tirelessly alongside our more devote members to ensure that the community is well cared for through work integration and volunteer programs such as our bustling Camp facility that provides so much to the wider community.
