Ideas Bank – Monday 12th June

Here’s some new game ideas to start your week off creatively!

Just a couple this week I’m afraid!

How about…?

Heros of Might and magic – as a board game?

Heroes of might and magic castle view

Castles, heroes and fighting? Nuff said

Political parties mini game – where players have to try to run for election whilst also pushing through their sensible or insane policies. Players could receive a set of policies they have to promote and the best one is voted in each round. The player with the most policies voted in at the end is the winner 👍

Complex or simple economy?

Just a quick poll – do you think a simple or complex economy in a board game is better and what are the pros and cons of each?

Also which do you think young teenagers would prefer? What do you think is needed to keep teenagers entertained in a board game, that might be different from adults?

Salad wars

Now a silly prototype!

Game type: card game, 1-4 players, kids

Length: 5 mins / round

Idea:

A mini game where players have to match 4 cards together to get the winning set.

Four types of cards – salad, meat, cooked meals, animals (herbivore, carnivore, human/omnivore).

Players get points by matching all the same, all different, with a bonus if they also have the correct animals.

Winning combos in order:

3 of the same with the correct animal

3 of the same without the correct animal

2 the same with the correct animal… Etc

Order of play is:

Deck is placed on table.

Players pick up one card each turn either from the deck or from another player (randomly).

Players must discard a card if they have more than 4.

If the deck runs out the discard is shuffled and makes a new deck.

Game ends when one player has a full set.

Alternative rules: game ends when all players have 4 cards.

Card ideas:

Salad – lettuce, leaves, potatoes

Meat – cow, sheep, pig

Cooked – hamburgers, cheese, cake

I was thinking of having cooked as unhealthy previously… Could also be omnivore to fit in with the theme, winner then would be omnivore + 3 different types of food (fruitivore??)

Crazy Pizza

Game type: board game, kids

Length: 20 mins

Idea:

Board consists of a pizza base, players build up slices of pizza with points based on whether the toppings go with each other on each slice eg pineapple and ham get extra points, but lemon and banana get minimal points.

Could also be tactical based on what the slice next to it is, eg if the slice next to it is savory aswell as yours you get a bonus.

Different board game pieces mean only certain amounts available.

Younger kids can just have fun creating silly pizzas.
